UN Women Donates Five Motorbikes to NAEAL in its Quest to Support Literacy Education and Skill Trainings of Farmers in Liberia

MONROVIA- The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Women Empowerment (UN Women) has donated five motorbikes to the National Adult Education Association of Liberia (NAEAL) in an effort to strengthen literacy and skills training for rural farmers.

The UN Women on Tuesday, through its Deputy Country Representative, Ms. Pamela Mkwamba, handed over keys of five HONDA motorbikes to NAEAL at the One UN House in Monrovia.

According to Ms. Mkwamba, the five motorbikes will be used by the National Adult Education Association of Liberia as UN Women partner for the implementation of UN Women adult literacy and business skills training program which is aimed to reach over 700 women smallholder farmers in Lofa, Bong, Nimba, Grand Bassa and Margibi Counties.

“It remains a fact that access to literacy and numeracy skills is unlocking the potential of our rural women beneficiaries and our intervention on rural women access to business development skills is to transform market tables into profitable business across Lofa, Bong, Nimba, Margibi, Grand Bassa and Montserrado counties,” Ms. Mkwamba said during the turnover ceremony.

She further said UN Women remain committed to partnering with NAEAL in strengthening UN Women engagement with illiterate rural women and adolescent girls for giving them a voice to speak out and participate in decision making through their participation in literacy and numeracy skills classes.

Joseph Yoko, NAEAL program manager, lauded UN Women for the support and reassure NAEAL intervention with rural women in the area of capacity building and unlocking the potential of rural women farmers.

“We want to be very grateful to UN Women for the continuous support and we can assure them that these motorbikes we have received will be used for its intended purpose,” Yoko said.
