Monrovia – Montserrado County’s District # 7 Representative Solomon Claudius George has blasted the Inter-Religious Council of Liberia (IRCL) for their alleged failure to take an impartial stance on acts that have the proclivity of destabilizing Liberia’s peace and emerging democracy.
Lawmaker George is an Executive Committee member of the governing Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).
The IRCL is a religious institution comprising of the Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) and the National Muslim Council of Liberia (NMCL).
Representative George described the IRCL as an “ungodly” group operating in Liberia that has failed to speak against acts that have the propensity to cause chaos in the country.
He made these assertions in an exclusive interview with FrontPageAfrica in Monrovia on Monday, October 14.
His comments were in reaction to the latest statement issued over the weekend by the IRCL, critiquing the closure of three radio stations.
On October 10, the Government ordered the closure of Roots FM 102.7, Shatia FM 102.5, and Vision FM 102.1, based upon a search and seizure warrant issued by the Magistrate of the Monrovia City Magisterial Court.
In the statement, the IRCL President Bishop Kortu Brown called for a resolution or legal redress over the closure of the radio stations by the Government.
Bishop Brown said that the Council is deeply concerned about the situation, calling on the Government and the affected radio stations as well as their supporters to exercise a high degree of restraint as efforts abound to find a resolution.

He also reminded the government of a major role it has to play in the maintenance of the peaceful citizens is presently enjoying in Liberia.
But in a sharp reaction to the IRCL stance on the situation, Representative George claimed that the religious leaders are “misusing and twisting” the words of God to suit a specific group of people, who he failed to name.
He alleges that the Council often reneged on speaking the truth but takes sides during times of misunderstanding or conflict in the country.
The CDC lawmaker claims that leaders of the council including Imams and pastors often engage in persistent begging, making others to show them high-level of disrespect.
“The religious leaders are bootlicker and beggars. They go around begging so people do not respect them,” he said.
“These people are trying to serve as a recipe for chaos. They spoke nonsense. Where were they when Costa was gathering people to cause havoc and amok at the Catholic Hospital.
“Where were they when people went at Freedom FM damaging people’s cars and vandalizing properties? Nobody came to speak against such actions. But they are now speaking on Roots FM closure, especially the ungodly group calling themselves IRCL. Those that are part of IRCL or agreed with them are all ungodly.”
Meanwhile, Rep. George has admitted to the increasing hardship the country faces under the Weah-led government.
He said Liberians, including members of the opposition community, should remain patient and work collectively to move the country forward.
“If we can recall, the past President Madam Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf said hard time is ahead of us and we should be ready to tighten our belts. This is a part of the period of a hard time,” he said.
