Paynesville – The Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) on Wednesday provided Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) materials to strengthen COVID-19 response and routine health services of the Montserrado County Health Team.
The donated items consisting of buckets for handwashing stations, liquid soap, hand sanitizer, liquid bleach and posters for promotion were turned over by JICA to the Montserrado County Health Team.
Speaking during the event, the Deputy Head of Office of JICA Madam Nakata Yoshimi called on the county health team to use the items at various health facilities in Montserrado County.
According to Madam Yoshimi, the handwashing promotion is another signature aspect of the donation of the Infection Protection Control materials regardless of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Washing of hands is very necessary to help to reduce our risk of contracting diseases such as diarrhea and influenza,” Deputy Head of Office of JICA said.
Madam Yoshimi added: “In Liberia, JICA aims to promote behavior change on handwashing through donation of equipment for handwashing stations, liquid soap, and sanitizers and liquid bleach to health facilities, as well as promotional posters showing message such as wash your hands with soap and clean water for a healthy life.”
Madam Youshimi furthers that similar donations of Infection Prevention and Control Material were done in June 2020 and July 2021 to sustain healthcare services during the COVIN-19 pandemic.
“This donation is a part of the technical cooperation project between Ministry of Health and JICA,” Madam Yoshimi said.
She continues: “The Technical Cooperation Project for Management Capacity Development for Improvement of Health Services in Montserrado County aims to strengthen management capacity of Montserrado County Health Team, so that health service delivery, especially Maternal and Child Healthcare is improved.”
According to Deputy Head of Office of JICA, the project which is the Technical cooperation project for management capacity development for improvement of health services in Montserrado County will end in September 2024 after a three years period.
Madam Yoshimi also revealed that her institution will closely work with Montserrado County Health Team to enhance the capacity of the management of the county health team.
Naming the following activities, Madam Yoshimi said, “We will conduct managerial trainings for Montserrado County Health Team staffs on planning and monitoring and evaluation and to provide technical support in developing an annual operational plan, conducting performance reviews, and reporting.”
She added that her institution will enhance the capacity of project management and support the development and the implementation of mini-projects through a step-by-step procedure.
Madam Yoshimi added: “We will strengthen health facility management through the 5S-KAIZEN-TQM method. We will also conduct learning and sharing activities on learning experiences and good practices.”
In response, Dr. Yatta Sackie-Wapoe, the Head of the Montserrado County Health Team praised JICA for its assistance to the county health team. According to her, the Infection Prevention and Control materials will be distributed at various healthcare facilities in and around Montserrado County.
