Liberia: IE Stuns BYC II

Monrovia – Barrack Young Controller (BYC) team two — BYC II — suffered their sixth defeat of the season with a shock 2-1 loss at struggling Invincible Eleven (IE) on Thursday, October 25, at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in central Monrovia. This defeat leaves BYE II out of the Second Division title race.

A small home crowd who gathered at the ATS celebrated what was the ‘Yellow boys’ first win over BYC II in many years and one which few would doubt they deserved after a passionate display from the junior “Go Blue Boys.”

IE lost the first leg to BYC II 4-0 at the Blue Field but there was no sign of any depression to the confidence of an energetic and determined side.

From the kickoff, the Yellow boys looked hungry and fired up while the Blues looked far from the team that started this season in such convincing fashion.

BYC pushed forward in numbers after going down 1-0 in the 8th minute of the match through a powerful header from IE’s midfielder James Sesay.

Prince Sannah decent header was blocked by Francis Doyen of IE for corner but it was not materialized by Sam Chebli’s man.

The traditional club IE could have added the second due to miscommunication between defender Kortu Brown and Jerry Vah and the ball rolled out for a corner kick.

Down by a goal, BYC’s forward Terry Sackor came close to getting the equalizer in the 30th minute but his effort travel over the cross bar.

IE created several scaring movements upfront but were poor on their final touches.

Mark Gibson got the Go Blue Boys’ equalizer in the 36th minute with a placement after William Seigbeh passed beat the defense of IE to end the first half 1-1.

Back from the break, Chebil’s side had more possession with seven shots on target five from Seigbeh throughout the game.

Seigbeh’s delicious passed found Sackor but miscommunication between the attacker and substitute Edwin Davies resulted to a goal kick for the yellow outfit.

IE Boakai Wailes’ shot went far from the target after Rufus Sackie displayed his skill against John Afful.

BYC II lost defender Solomon Zeah after picking up two yellow cards and IE did utilize their numerical advantage.

Sackie, throughout the match, was a constant threat on the flank to BYC II.

William Seigbeh went close to pulling one back with a shot that flashed just wide but at the break Chebli made three substitutions –throwing on Christian Doe, Edwin Davies and Martian Barclay as he sought to change the direction of the game but Sackor, and Barclay blew away open chances.

Sebastian Teclar was to blame for IE ’s second goal when he completely fell to the ground while trying to clear the ball and Roberta Jackson’s shot was saved by Vah but striker Lawrence Vondeh scored from the rebound in the added four minutes to end the match 2-1.

Despite intense late pressure from BYC II, the Yellow Boys held on for a famous victory on the same day that another traditional team, Mighty Barrolle were beaten 6-0 by FC Bea Mountain.

“I said to the players that I wouldn’t expect a result,” said Abraham Sese IE Coach .

“That is why it so huge for us. It’s a very proud moment, that we were able to beat BYC at home.

“Out of form IE has beaten BYC II and it is one of the proudest moments in my coaching career.

“Everyone at the stadium could feel in the first couple of minutes that one team was ready to give everything and the other was not ready for it. Maybe only my players realized at half-time,” a scathing Abraham said after the match.
